'Schools can contribute enormously to the development of learning cities and learning communities. They contain the future citizens who will benefit from its creation. Local Authorities and schools should look creatively at how staff, children and parents can become co-creators of a better future.'

(European Memorandum on Lifelong Learning)

sample session

Sample session
(Chapter 6 session 2)

This cut-down sample session deals with the role of schools and their contribution to the development of a learning city in a rapidly changing world. The full version takes longer than most sessions (the majority take between 1 and 2 hours to complete – this one forms the basis for a whole seminar/workshop), but its purpose is to raise the issues so that a wider public can understand the pressure points and come to a more informed opinion.

It is not only for schoolteachers and those involved with schools. It is expected that an administration department head, an educator, a community officer or even a member of the public might download this session and go through a selection of the assignments and exercise either as the stimulator of a series of discussions in the department, as part of a delivered seminar/workshop or for personal enrichment. Some assignments and exercises can be omitted
